What hiring a BCBA through us looks like

01
Most BCBA hiring starts after the problem already exists
Most organizations don't start looking for a BCBA until someone resigns or caseloads become difficult to manage. By then, many of the strongest candidates have already accepted another role, been promoted, or decided to stay where they are. That's why we stay in touch with BCBAs before a position opens. When a client needs to hire, we're continuing conversations instead of starting from scratch.
02
The strongest BCBAs usually aren't applying online
Our BCBA recruiters reaches out directly to behavior analysts already working in ABA clinics, school districts, and multi-site organizations. Many of the people we place weren't actively looking when we first contacted them. They were simply open to the right opportunity.
03
Hiring a BCBA involves more than checking BACB certification
BACB certification is only part of the picture. Before we introduce a BCBA, we verify both BACB certification and any required state licensure because a nationally certified BCBA isn't always cleared to practice or bill in your state without additional approval.

What goes into every BCBA shortlist

Before we introduce a BCBA candidate, we've confirmed:

Active BACB certification verified against the national registry - Certificate number, expiration date, and current standing
State licensure confirmed where applicable - LBA (NY), LABA (FL), and equivalent credentials in TX, NJ, VA, and other states with separate licensure requirements
BACB ethics record reviewed - No active violations, open investigations, or public sanctions on file
Supervised fieldwork documentation confirmed for recently certified BCBAs
CEU compliance current - Required for BACB certification renewal every two years
Setting-specific experience aligned to your program model - Clinic, school-based, in-home, telehealth, or residential
Caseload and supervisory history reviewed - Number of RBTs supervised, years in a clinical or supervisory role, and case complexity
Compensation expectations, availability, and earliest start date confirmed before submission
Your interview should focus on clinical judgment, communication, and team fit. We take care of the credential and qualification checks first.

Frequently asked questions

We recruit BCBAs for ABA clinics, autism centers, multi-site ABA organizations, school districts, early intervention programs, in-home ABA providers, EIDBI programs, and PE-backed ABA platforms.

Every search is built around your organization. The right BCBA for a single-site clinic isn't always the right fit for a fast-growing multi-site provider, so we tailor our search to the role rather than following the same process every time.

Finding a BCBA is only part of the challenge. Finding one who's available, licensed in your state, and the right clinical fit is what usually takes time.

The shortage starts with the pipeline. Becoming a BCBA requires a master's degree, 1,500 to 2,000 hours of supervised fieldwork, and passing the BCBA examination. For most clinicians, that's a four to six year process. At the same time, demand for ABA services has grown rapidly, driven by insurance mandates requiring autism coverage in all 50 states. The result is more demand than there are qualified BCBAs to fill it.

State licensure can add another layer of complexity. While BCBA certification is national, many states require a separate license before a clinician can practice. We verify both BACB certification and any required state licensure before introducing candidates.

A BCBA staffing agency helps ABA providers hire Board Certified Behavior Analysts.

ExpertHiring's board certified behavior analyst staffing practice focuses on permanent and contract placement, sourcing employed BCBAs currently working in comparable settings. We verify credentials, check state licensure where required, and screen for the right clinical setting before introducing a candidate. Most of the BCBAs we place are already working in roles similar to the one you're hiring for.

For most clinic and in-home roles, clients receive their first shortlist within 72 to 96 hours.

School-based positions can take a little longer depending on the district's hiring process and state licensure requirements. Clinical Director and VP of Clinical searches usually take fourteen to twenty-one days because the pool of experienced clinical leaders is much smaller. We'll talk through the timeline before the search begins so everyone starts with the same expectations.

BACB certification is the national credential. To earn it, candidates complete a master's degree, 1,500 to 2,000 supervised fieldwork hours, and pass the BCBA exam.

State licensure is a separate requirement. New York requires an LBA, Florida requires a LABA, and states like Texas, New Jersey, and Virginia have their own licensing rules. Before we introduce a BCBA, we verify both. National certification alone doesn't always mean someone can practice or bill in your state.

Absolutely. School-based BCBA roles are different from clinic and in-home positions. We look for experience working with IDEA, participating in IEP meetings, collaborating with teachers, SLPs, and OTs, and supporting school teams. The credential matters, but so does experience in the environment.

Quite a bit. The BACB requires BCBAs to provide at least 5% ongoing supervision of each RBT's total service hours per month. Every BCBA can supervise only so many service hours.

If your BCBA team is already at capacity, adding more RBTs becomes difficult. That affects client intake, waitlists, and the pace at which your program can grow. Our BCBA recruiting process screens specifically for supervisory capacity and BACB compliance history before any introduction.
