What hiring looks like in the market

DFW has more than 160,000 healthcare jobs and some of the biggest health systems in the country. There are plenty of jobs. Finding the experienced people you actually want to hire is the hard part.

Texas is part of the Nurse Licensure Compact. A nurse licensed in Florida, Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, or any of the 41+ other NLC states can practice in Texas immediately. If the right nurse isn't in DFW, we can look elsewhere without adding another licensing process to the search.

DFW keeps growing, but the nurse supply isn't keeping up. Texas is projecting a 15.6% gap between RN supply and demand by 2036. Meanwhile, new facilities in Frisco, McKinney, and Prosper are hiring from the same pool Baylor Scott & White, Medical City, and Texas Health have been competing for for years. There are more places hiring, but the number of experienced nurses hasn't caught up.

Where the candidate lives can make or break the hire. The DFW metroplex covers more than 9,000 square miles. A nurse in Frisco isn't going to drive to Oak Cliff every day. We look at the candidate's actual location before we start building the list, because the "perfect" candidate isn't much use if they won't make the commute.

Dallas has a big healthcare corporate market too. Tenet Healthcare is headquartered in Dallas and CHRISTUS Health is in Irving. That means there's steady demand here for revenue cycle directors, compliance officers, VP-level clinical leaders, and other healthcare executives. It's a very different talent pool from the clinical side, and it needs a different search.

And then there's the travel nurse problem. Texas is one of the biggest travel nurse markets in the country. Put up a Dallas RN job and you'll get travel candidates. That's not necessarily the person you want for a permanent position. The experienced nurses worth hiring are usually already working and aren't applying to your posting. You have to go find them.

How a Dallas search actually works with us

Figure out what DFW actually means for this role

Dallas is compact-state, which means we can pull from a national nurse pool without licensing delays. But the metro is also spread across 9,000 square miles, and a candidate in Frisco isn't taking a role near Parkland. Before we reach out to anyone, we get clear on the submarket, the care setting, and whether this is a clinical placement or a leadership role in the corporate corridor. That shapes the whole list.

Call the people who aren't calling you back

Our Dallas recruiters reach out directly - to nurses at Baylor Scott & White and Texas Health, physicians at UT Southwestern, allied health professionals across DFW, and revenue cycle leaders in the Irving and Las Colinas corridor. If they're open to something better, we start that conversation. If they're not, we keep moving.

What reaches you has already been filtered

No travel candidates in a permanent shortlist. No resumes from people who want twice your budget. We check specialty background, Texas BON status or compact equivalency, submarket fit, and compensation range before you see anything. You get a shortlist, not a stack.

Planning on hiring for a different specialty?

We recruit across all of DFW - Medical District, North Dallas, the north suburbs (Frisco, Plano, McKinney), West DFW (Irving, Arlington), East DFW, South Dallas and the Fort Worth corridor. If you're hiring in Dallas-Fort Worth healthcare, we can likely help.

A closer look at healthcare market in Dallas

Region
Uptown / Medical District
Major healthcare employers
UT Southwestern Medical Center, Parkland Health, Children's Health Dallas, VA North Texas
Recruiter insight
UT Southwestern's reputation carries a lot of weight here and candidates often compare other offers against it. Parkland follows public system timelines, so hiring can take longer. Strong candidates are often talking with two or three employers at the same time.
Region
North Dallas / Park Cities
Major healthcare employers
Medical City Dallas, Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, Texas Health Dallas
Recruiter insight
Medical City and Presbyterian are usually looking at the same experienced clinicians. Most candidates here have good tenure and aren't going to move just for a small bump in pay. The job needs to feel like a real improvement, not a lateral move.
Region
North Suburbs (Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Allen)
Major healthcare employers
Medical City Frisco, Texas Health Plano, Baylor Scott & White McKinney, Baylor Scott & White Frisco
Recruiter insight
This is one of the fastest growing parts of DFW and one of the busiest hiring areas in the state. New facilities keep competing for the same local nurses. People living in Frisco and Plano generally want to stay north, so a daily commute into the Medical District is usually a non starter.
Region
West DFW (Irving, Arlington, Grand Prairie)
Major healthcare employers
Baylor Scott & White Irving, Medical City Arlington, Texas Health Arlington, CHRISTUS Health (HQ)
Recruiter insight
Irving has more than clinical hiring going on. CHRISTUS Health's corporate operations create demand for healthcare leadership and revenue cycle talent too. Arlington and Grand Prairie draw from a wider West DFW pool, with the DFW Airport area playing a big part in commute patterns.
Region
South Dallas / Oak Cliff
Major healthcare employers
Methodist Charlton Medical Center, Baylor Scott & White (Oak Cliff area), community health centers
Recruiter insight
These facilities tend to attract candidates who care about the community they're serving. Pay is typically below the north suburb benchmarks, so salary isn't always enough to win someone over. Mission, community impact, and schedule stability can matter just as much.
Region
Fort Worth Corridor
Major healthcare employers
Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth, JPS Health Network, Cook Children's Medical Center, Baylor Scott & White All Saints
Recruiter insight
Fort Worth has its own healthcare market. JPS follows public system timelines similar to Parkland, while Cook Children's attracts people who specifically want pediatric care. And someone who lives in Fort Worth usually isn't looking to commute east into Dallas every day.

Frequently asked questions

It can make the job boards pretty noisy. DFW is one of the country's biggest travel nurse markets, so an RN posting can bring in plenty of travel and short-term profiles that aren't what a health system is actually looking for in a permanent hire.

The experienced staff nurses you really want are already working at places like Baylor Scott & White, Texas Health, and Medical City. Most aren't sitting on job boards looking for their next job. That's why we go directly to them instead.

Absolutely. We recruit across Baylor Scott & White, UT Southwestern, Texas Health Resources, Medical City Healthcare, Parkland Health, Methodist Health System, Children's Health, JPS Health Network, Cook Children's and other healthcare organizations throughout DFW and the Fort Worth corridor.

Each system has its own hiring and credentialing process. UT Southwestern's academic structure is different from a community hospital, and Parkland's public system timeline is different from Baylor Scott & White's. We set those expectations with both sides early so the process doesn't get held up after an offer.

Yes, where someone lives matters a lot in DFW. A nurse in Frisco isn't likely to commute to Oak Cliff, and someone in Fort Worth may not want to drive east to the Medical District every day.

We look at where candidates actually live and what commute they would realistically accept before reaching out. North suburbs, West DFW, the Fort Worth corridor, and East DFW each have their own candidate pools, and we search them accordingly.

Yes, Tenet's corporate headquarters are in Dallas and CHRISTUS Health is headquartered in Irving, so DFW has a strong market for healthcare leadership and operations roles as well as clinical positions.
