What we evaluate before presenting candidates
Our nurse practitioner recruiters identify candidates currently working in comparable roles, reach out through direct recruiter relationships, and screen for the credentials and practice authority requirements your role actually needs. Before presenting any candidate, we verify:
What the NP market actually looks like right now
At first glance, the Nurse Practitioner market looks healthy. NP employment is projected to grow by 40% through 2034, and the overall number of NPs continues to increase. But those numbers don't tell the whole story.
The reality is that candidate availability varies a lot by specialty. Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs) make up the largest talent pool and are generally easier to recruit. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) are a very different market.
According to HRSA, nearly 170 million Americans live in federally designated Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas. Demand for PMHNPs continues to outpace supply, and experienced candidates often have multiple employers reaching out to them at the same time. Offering a higher salary doesn't always solve the problem. Many want to know about the patient population, caseload, supervision model, and whether the role is sustainable over the long term. Across every specialty, nurse practitioner recruiting works differently than most employers expect. The most experienced candidates usually aren't searching job boards. They're already seeing full patient panels, managing busy caseloads, and responding only to nurse practitioner recruiters who understand their specialty and have built trusted relationships over time.
If you're also filling other nursing roles across the same practice or system, our team recruits CNAs, Registered Nurses, ICU Nurses, Charge Nurses, and Directors of Nursing through the same direct-outreach process.

Frequently asked questions
They're very different searches, and treating them the same is one of the biggest reasons nurse practitioner recruiting in behavioral health stalls.
FNPs come from the largest nurse practitioner talent pool, so most markets have qualified candidates available and clients typically see a first shortlist within 72-96 business hours.
PMHNP recruiting is different. The demand-to-supply gap is wider than any other NP specialty. Candidates with real behavioral health experience, not just board certification, are often considering multiple offers at the same time.
That's why our NP staffing approach handles PMHNP searches through a dedicated sourcing strategy rather than treating them like any other NP search. Timelines are typically longer, compensation expectations are higher, and it's best to plan for both.
Absolutely.
More than 26 states now grant full practice authority, allowing NPs to practice and prescribe independently. In reduced or restricted practice states, NPs must work under a physician collaboration agreement, and not every candidate has experience with that model or wants to practice under it.
Some have only worked in full practice authority states and aren't prepared for collaborative oversight. If your state requires physician collaboration, we'll only introduce candidates who have worked under that model before and are comfortable doing so.
Absolutely, and it's a conversation worth having before you start recruiting.
The differences between NPs and PAs vary by state and specialty. Scope of practice, prescribing authority, and training are all factors. In some settings either can be a great fit, while in others those differences matter.
We recruit both through our nurse practitioner staffing agency and our NP recruiting team. We can walk you through compensation benchmarks, state specific scope considerations and the available talent pool before you decide which search makes the most sense.
For FNP and primary care NP searches, most clients receive a first shortlist within 72-96 hours. Specialty NP searches, including cardiology, orthopedics, and women's health, typically take 10 to 14 business days. PMHNP searches and telehealth roles requiring multi-state licensure usually take 14 to 20 business days because the candidate pool is smaller and licensure verification adds additional steps. Location also plays a role. Rural and underserved markets have fewer local candidates, which can extend timelines regardless of specialty.
During intake, we'll give you a realistic timeline based on your role, location, and practice setting rather than a generic estimate.
